How To Gain 5 Pounds in Budapest and still feel great about it: Ruszwurm
If possible the longest article title i will ever use, fingers crossed :)!
People be prepared: i have found Heaven on Earth! This pastry shop is a true gem, but let's not get ahead of myself. The patisserie I'm referring to is the great Ruszwurm Cukraszda situated in Szentharomsag utca 7. The name of both the place and the location may be slightly difficult to remember or pronounce but the "effort" is worth it! Ruszwurm is a small shop in the Buda castle area, right next to Matyas Templom, Matthias Church, the Church in front of Fisherman's Bastion.
The shop itself doesn't have much room to hold many tables so I advise people, who rightfully :) want to stay there and eat a shameless amount of cake with the comfort of their own table, to be strategic about the time of visiting. In the morning and at around lunch time are perfect opportunities to get a table without having to wait.
Fun fact about this place: it was founded in 1827 and the furniture, the ambience and the amazing atmosphere have not changed ever since! It's like walking in a still fresh and living piece of History! Isn't it exciting?? :)
And if you thought getting a table was the hard part, think again! The menu is few pages long, filled with all kind of cakes, pastries and little pieces of heaven to choose from: it is going to take a while. Luckily, like most people in Budapest i might add, the waiters at Ruszwurm are extremely friendly and will not harass you to order quickly. Also, they are more than available for any concern you might have about ingredients in the desserts and they are great at suggesting the best desserts in case you are not sure about what to choose. Unless like i strongly suggest you to do, you decide to try multiple desserts in one sitting. If you find yourself visiting the pastry shop with a group of friends or your family or whoever you want, i suggest you order many pastries and split them between you and your companions so you can have the chance to try several flavours on one single occasion. This place is also incredibly affordable so it would be a shame to leave with just once slice! A little extra tip would be to come here at least once during the weekend because they serve many special cakes and pastries only during those two days and they are really worth it so come and take a bite of the coconut cake for me! :)
